Michele, The New Zell?

Politico's Daniel Libit pronounces Rep. Michele Bachmann's "call for a media investigation into 'anti-American' members of Congress" "the macaca — or McCarthy — moment of 2008."

Chris Matthews, on whose show Bachmann made that "call," seems to see it as the election 2008 equivalent of his Zell Miller Moment. (You know, in 2004 when Miller wished he could challenge Matthews to a duel? And the clip was discussed everywhere, to the extent possible in a time before YouTube?):

Michele Bachmann may be leery about returning to Chris Matthews’ show but Matthews tells Politico he’d love to get the Minnesota congresswoman back on “Hardball” after their headline-grabbing exchange last Friday.

“I’ve always wanted to get Zell Miller back on,” Matthews said. Matthews and the former Georgia senator had an infamously contentious encounter with the MSNBC host following the 2004 Republican National Convention.

I'm very happy she's sunk so far in the mud.

In and around the Republican National Convention she was regularly trotted out as a Republican Woman(tm) and spoke of her outrage at every Democratic act and her thrill inspired by every atom of Sarah Palin.

It was top-notch disgusting.

Do you think the parties are part of the problem? Do you think the parties had a hand in writing the campaign legislation which allows donations to parties about ten times larger than donations to candidates?

If I was sitting on some money, I'd investigate the guy (doing well) and running against (for example) Lincoln Diaz-Balart and a few other of the (imho) stupidest Congresscritters.

Dear CJR,
We might not have another President as dumb as George Walker for a long, long time, but few people _other_ than journalists have the responsibility to make _sure_ it doesn't happen. Some wits thought things would be ok if Mr. Average Joe ("I'd like to have a beer with him!") surrounded himself with smart people. The thing is, a dumb person can't decide which advice is _actually_ smart. There's no basis for discernment.
